For our VCD102 we were required to construct a poster through Adobe Illustrator to be printed off as A1 print in which would entail a large scale digital visualisation using data in which we found on a specific issue on-going. Including overall visualised representation revealing the relationship between the data sets that are being analysed. In this weeks BLOG posts we were required to include the way in which we founded and constructed the idea to elaborate on in our posters.
Mind maps are essential in configuring a brainstormed idea on narrowing down onto a topic. For me, I did a rough google search of things that are currently issues or topics around the world today with statistics widely found. I discovered a helpful website called “6 Global Issues to Watch in 2019”. This was where I found 4 topics that gave off the best statistical data sets in which I too could work with, “Violence, Wastage, Terrorism and Unemployment”. This was made the research task more difficult then first thought as I found myself changing topics regularly, trying to keep the data accurate and too concise with the topic was difficult to find.

Attached is my mind map in which I constructed to throw down all the topics to elaborate. Deciphering which had the best data sets that had plenty of statistics and reliability. Finally I found a global issue that has a previous history on the topic to this day that has varied over time, this being terrorism.
As we went through the week tutorial of week 2 we learn’t about infographics and the importance of it. I thought I would use this to research data presented today on the topic of terrorism (attached). This became a point of which I would follow in creating my own infographics for the topic.
From the research I gathered I found that in the year of 2017 there was an astonishing 1,414 terrorist attacks in Iraq alone. I found this from https://ourworldindata.org/terrorism in which holds several different terrorist attack statistics, ranging from fatalities, number of attacks in general, injuries etc. With many statistics on this one topic it came as both a beneficial and hard topic as there is thousands of statistics given on this one topic. It came as a benefit as there was lots of data in which I could decipher through but too on that difficult in finding how reliable the data given actually is.
Sketches conducted in the design and research phase was the varying types of graphs that I would include, diagrams and icons. This would also be the way in which I would set out my poster to be created. With workshop knowledge that I have gathered over the 4 weeks I was able to use these new found skills to manipulate how too my poster would turn out.
Attached below is the beginning of my poster is to be intended to begin like…
Included in this was my first idea of diagrams that I want to include into the poster. This being a fact sheet form that I was able to gather from the https://ourworldindata.org/terrorism website. Also in addition will be various sets of visual data such as bar and line graphs.
I look forward to the final product of this poster on the world data of terrorism to date.
